Episode 1 - Sabriel, By Garth Nix

Featuring an extended discussion of how we personally view death and the afterlife but mainly nonstop gushing about how Sabriel has been our role model for 15+ years, this is the first official Dragon Babies episode! We recommend reading Sabriel before listening, although if you read it years ago you should remember enough to have a pretty good time.

PRONUNCIATION DISCLAIMER: An unexpected obstacle that's come up with every episode of Dragon Babies is the fact that these character names, places, and objects are all completely made up, in languages that don't exist. We therefore just do our best, and sometimes we giggle about our own inept attempts at articulating these proper nouns. This is not intended to be at all disrespectful to the authors or the works, and we're trying to improve moving forward! Welcome to Dragon Babies!!

I'm so excited!! Now that my sister is both living in my city and also in her 3rd year of law school with some time to goof around, Dragon Babies has become a reality.

The two of us (Grace and Madeleine) will be discussing personally beloved young adult fantasy novels that got us through some tough times and made us the humans we are today. It's not all super serious - there's a lot of giggling about sex ed videos and awkward childhood moments. Try it out if you're a fantasy fan, or in the mood for some 90's nostalgia (we were born in 1987 and 1990 and grew up *~*90's KiDs*~*).

After recording only 2 episodes, I'm shocked by just how formative these books were for me, and I'm ready to give them and their authors the acknowledgements they deserve. This mini-episode (Episode 0?) is a quick introduction to why I've put this project together, and what my fantasy past was like - give it a listen to get better acquainted and learn whether you, too, are a dragon baby.
